2022-2025 Multi-Year Accessibility Plan Feedback Survey

The Region of Durham is committed to hearing from you about how we can improve the accessibility of our programs, services, and facilities. Your input is valuable and will help to shape our 2022-2025 Multi-Year Accessibility Plan. What do you think should be included in this plan? Under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA), standards were developed in five areas. These standards help to identify what must be done to eliminate barriers for people with disabilities. A decision that ultimately helps us all. The five standards are: Customer Service, Information and Communication, Employment, Transportation and Design of Public Spaces.

What are disability barriers?

Under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA), a barrier is anything that prevents a person with a disability from fully participating in their community.

Barriers limit access:

  • To places and activities, because of the way it is designed.
  • To the things people with disabilities can do.
  • To the places they can go.
  • Due to the attitudes of others toward them.

What are Regional services?

There are two levels of government in the Durham Region:

  • The Regional Municipality of Durham
  • The eight local area municipalities (Town of Ajax, Township of Brock, Municipality of Clarington, City of Oshawa, City of Pickering, Township of Scugog, Township of Uxbridge, and Town of Whitby)

Some services fall under The Regional Municipality of Durham and some are the responsibility of the local area municipalities.

    2022-2025 Multi-Year Accessibility Plan Community Feedback Survey

    The Region of Durham needs your feedback to assist in the development of the 2022-2025 Multi-Year Accessibility Plan. The plan will outline how the Region of Durham will prevent and remove barriers that people with disabilities may face in our programs, services, and facilities. Your input is important as we create this plan to continue to improve on our services to all our residents and staff.

    Select the following link Regional Municipality of Durham 2016-2021 Multi-Year Accessibility Plan to view our last Plan. This plan outlines the compliance timelines and requirements of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA), up to the end of 2021.

    The survey will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. Your participation is voluntary, and you may withdraw at any time. Please feel free to share the survey with others who may wish to participate. If you have any difficulty completing the survey, have any questions or require the survey in an accessible format, please contact the Accessibility Coordinator at accessibility@durham.ca or call 905-668-4113 extension 2009.

    Information is collected pursuant to Section 8 of the Municipal Act, 2001 and will be used in accordance with the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act.
