New for the 2014 Municipal Elections
For the first time voters in Durham Region will have the opportunity to cast a vote to elect a Regional Chair. This individual will represent the entire Region. The names of the six Regional Chair candidates will be on all ballots within Durham Region (in Ajax, Brock, Clarington, Oshawa, Pickering, Scugog, Uxbridge and Whitby). To be eligible to vote you must be: a Canadian citizen; at least 18 years old; a resident, or the owner or tenant of land (or spouse of such owner or tenant of land), in a municipality in Durham Region; and not otherwise prohibited by law from voting.
Voting Day is Monday, October 27, 2014
To find out if you are on the Voters’ List please contact the Clerk’s office in your municipality. You may vote only once for a Regional Chair and only in the municipality in which you maintain your permanent residence, regardless of how many properties you may own or rent within Durham Region.
Even though this is a Regional position, the Area Municipal Clerks will continue to conduct the election within their specific city/town/township and report the vote to the Regional Clerk. The Regional Clerk will then prepare the final summary and announce the result of the vote. Depending on the municipality, votes may be cast by mail, telephone, Internet or in person.
