2014 Municipal Election – October 27, 2014

New Procedure for the 2014 Municipal Election

This is the first time that all eligible voters in Durham Region will have the opportunity to cast a vote to choose a Regional Chair.  Beginning with the 2014 municipal elections, a Regional Chair will be elected to represent the entire Region. Municipal elections will take place on October 27th. Each elector can vote for one candidate for Regional Chair. The names of all candidates for this position will appear on the ballots in Ajax, Brock, Clarington, Oshawa, Pickering, Scugog, Uxbridge and Whitby. Until now, a Regional Chair was chosen by the 28 Regional Councillors who are elected from these eight communities.

The Nomination Paper and information for candidates for the Regional Chair position are available online and at the Regional Clerk’s Office. Nominations for candidacy are being accepted until September 12th at 2:00 p.m. and must be filed at the Regional Clerk’s office, Regional Headquarters, 605 Rossland Road East, Whitby.
