Family Services
Goals and Objectives:
- To provide accessible, effective counselling and other support services
- To maximize regional resources and build effective partnerships with others for the benefit of Durham residents
- To increase the capacity of other human service professionals and organizations through training and/or supervision
- To promote non-violent and non-controlling attitudes and behaviours among men who have assaulted their partners
- To ensure safety of women and children by meeting the standards of the Ontario Women’s Directorate
- To facilitate change in the attitudes of individuals charged with offenses related to power and control
- To support developmentally disabled adults to meet their full potential and live as independently as possible in the community
- To reduce the risk and severity of psychological trauma through critical incident stress management
- To enhance employee retention, attendance, productivity and morale through workplace consultation and organizational support
Programs:
- Core Community Services: Intake, Assessment, Counselling, Referral, Groups
- Partner Assault Response (PAR): Mandated structured group program for men and women who have been found and/or pled guilty to Domestic Violence.
- Employee Assistance: Intake, Assessment and referral, Counselling for employees and their family members; Critical incident counselling and support services; Organizational support and wellness seminars for employee groups
- Adult Community Support Services: Assessment and referral, Case management, Counselling and supportive services, Service coordination, Advocacy
Hours of Operation
Family Services Intake line (905-666-6240 or long distance toll-free1-866-840-6697) operates from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday from the Main office location.
Note: Satellite office hours in Bowmanville, Sunderland/Beaverton, Uxbridge, Port Perry, South Oshawa and Whitby (Fairview Lodge) locations are determined by the needs of individuals within these communities.

Mission Statement
Family Services is funded by the Regional Municipality of Durham. Working in partnership with other Divisions of the Social Services Department and other community agencies, Family Services is dedicated to improving the quality of life of the residents of Durham by providing them with professional counselling and other support services that are timely, accessible and responsive.
Philosophy Statement
Family Services operates within the guidelines of the Ontario Human Rights Code of 1981, the Canadian Family Services Accreditation Program (CFSAP), the Employee Assistance Society of North America (EASNA), the International Organization for Standardization (ISO 9001:2000), and the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers to:

- Promote positive and safe work environments
- Respect the independence, dignity and potential of all residents of Durham Region
