Display Ban

As of May 31st, 2008 tobacco products can no longer be displayed in retail stores in Ontario.

The tobacco industry is trying to recruit YOU to be one of their new smokers, and they make every effort to expose you to their products.

  • Tobacco displays in retail stores work like oversized billboards displaying hundreds of cigarettes packages.
  • They are highly visible advertising to youth and ex-smokers.
  • Tobacco displays use strategic colours, lettering, and graphic designs on packaging to effectively advertise their products to youth.
  • This is a tactic to overexpose their product to gain social acceptability.
  • The more you are exposed to it, the more you will trust it.
