Wide Awake

Exposing the Tobacco Industry

The purpose of Wide Awake is to educate youth about tobacco and the tobacco industry, and support youth in advocating for tobacco control in their community.

"To advocate" is to support, to promote, to back, to defend and to campaign for a cause in which you believe, and to which you are devoted. 1

Working in collaboration with community youth agencies, the youth plan and implement street level marketing activities in their communities. These activities are aimed at denormalizing the tobacco industry by exposing their lies and deceptive tactics and advocating for tobacco control policies.

Over the years projects have included:

  • Advocating for Smoke-Free Movies at the Toronto International Film Festival
  • Creating a TV commercial aired on CBC.
  • Sending a delegation to the province of Ontario concerning Tobacco Advertising restrictions in the Smoke-Free Ontario Act.
