Eat Smart! Workplace Cafeteria and Recreation Centre Programs
Ontario's Eat Smart! Workplace Cafeteria and Recreation Centre Programs offer an "Award of Excellence" to recreation centres, workplace cafeterias and vending machine operators in these settings, that meet exceptional standards in nutrition and food safety. The goal of these programs is to contribute to the reduction of chronic diseases, such as heart disease and cancer, as well as foodborne illness in Ontario.

Award Winners 

Eat Smart! Standards
Nutrition Standard
Eat Smart! cafeterias, recreation centres and vending machines offer healthier food choices including whole grain products, vegetables and fruit, lower fat milk and alternatives as well as lower fat meat and alternatives.
Food Safety Standard
The food safety component requires recreation centres and workplace
cafeterias to have excellent records for compliance with the Food Premises
Regulations and must have at least one staff member certified in safe
food handling working on each shift.
Non-Smoking Seating Standard
As of May 31, 2006, the non-smoking seating criteria now requires Eat
Smart! recreation centres and workplace cafeterias to be 100% smoke free, as per the Smoke-Free Ontario Act.
