Promoting Sun Safety at School

Schools play an important role in preventing skin cancer by helping children develop healthy sun safe attitudes and behaviours. Children spend several hours at school on most weekdays and this places schools in an ideal position to reduce skin cancer rates in the future generations by teaching sun safety.

A sun safe school environment uses a comprehensive approach to promote sun safe behaviours to the whole school community (students, parents, teachers and community partners).

Parents and School Community:

A healthy school takes a comprehensive approach to health for the school community including students, staff and parents/caregivers. In doing so, healthy schools affect individual health behaviours and improve the environments where students, staff and parents live and learn.
