Falls Across the Lifespan - Adults

Durham data shows that of all injuries, falls are the number one cause of emergency room visits and hospitalization in adults aged 20-59 years.

  • In adults 20-29 years, alcohol use is known to be a factor leading to increased risk of slipping, tripping, and stumbling.

What is the impact of a fall?

Injuries from a fall can have a serious impact on a person’s daily life such as:

  • Not being able to do usual activities (e.g cooking, cleaning etc.)
  • Not being able to care for self or others
  • Not being able to work or be productive
  • Needing a change in regular duties or work space at work
  • Needing health care
