It is an extra special year. Canada is celebrating its 150th birthday. What better way to celebrate then to highlight the importance of physical activity and the diversity of sport, weather, activity and fun of course!

Small changes do make a difference. If you weren’t active before, now is a great time to start. It is Canada’s 150th birthday!

  • Outdoor play never goes out of style. Try new activities with your young children and/or challenge your teen to be a great role model. Role modelling makes the difference. Children learn by watching what you do. Show your child how being active makes a difference to how you feel. Being active also builds strong bones and minimizes the impact of stress.
  • Turn off the screen and try a new sport. There is plenty to do all year round: rain, snow, sun or sleet.

  • Walking is truly the activity of a lifetime! Durham Region’s natural landscape, which includes trails and waterfront, hidden creeks and pedestrian-friendly community is a lovely setting for a walk.
