2016/2017 Healthy School Award

Support Health In Your School!

This is the 10th year the award is being offered to elementary and secondary schools. The award recognizes schools for their commitment to a Healthy Schools approach in the prevention of chronic diseases, injuries and substance misuse.

Applications for 2016/2017 are now closed.

The Healthy School Award recognizes schools for supporting at least one of the following health topics:

  • Healthy eating
  • Physical activity
  • Sun safety
  • Tobacco-free living
  • Alcohol and marijuana-free living
  • Road safety
  • Mental health
  • Other (select your own health topic)
The award complements the Ministry of Education's "Foundations for a Healthy School" document. Each health topic is divided into the 5 healthy school components:
  • Curriculum Teaching Learning
  • School and Classroom Leadership
  • Student Engagement
  • Social and Physical Envrironment
  • Home, School and Community Partnerships

There is a public health nurse associated with each school in Durham Region
