Common Recreational Water Illness

Gastrointestinal Infections:

Gastrointestinal infections are caused by coliforms, parasites and viruses. The most common symptom is diarrhea.

Skin and Wound Infections:

Pseudomonas and staphylococcus bacteria are mainly responsible for these types of infections:

  • Dermatitis - Inflammation of the skin
  • Folliculitis - Inflammation of the follicles
  • Athletes foot
  • Swimmers Rash
  • Hot tub rash 

Ear & Eye Infections:

Healthy swimming behaviours are needed to protect you and your child(ren) from RWIs and will help stop germs from getting in the pool in the first place.
