Durham Region celebrates Waste Reduction Week

WHITBY, ON October 17, 2013 – The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department invites residents, businesses, municipalities and schools to celebrate Waste Reduction Week (WRW) from Oct. 21 to 27.

“Waste Reduction Week is a national campaign that calls on Canadians to rethink what they purchase and what they throw away,” says Mirka Januszkiewicz, Director of Waste Management. “We encourage all residents to consider new ways to reduce their waste–whether it’s drinking from a reusable beverage container, packing a litterless lunch, or donating unwanted items to charity–every effort counts.”

In celebration of WRW, the Region is hosting several waste diversion events on Saturday, Oct. 26:

  • Reuse Days at the Waste Management Centre in Whitby, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  • E-waste and household hazardous waste (HHW) collection at Lakeview Park in Oshawa, from 8 a.m. to noon.
  • E-waste collection at the Whitby Operations Centre, from 8 a.m. to noon.
  • HHW collection at the Clarington Operations Depot, from 8 a.m. to noon.
