Nominations open until Oct. 31 for Durham Art of Transition Creative Awards

WHITBY, ON October 28, 2014

The Regional Municipality of Durham, Planning and Economic Development Department’s Economic Development and Tourism Division, is reminding residents that nominations can be submitted until Oct. 31 at 11:59 a.m., for the fifth annual Durham Art of Transition Creative Awards (DATCA).

Presented in partnership with Spark Centre, DATCA will take place on Nov. 27 at the Heydenshore Pavilion in Whitby. Durham Tourism will be making a special announcement during this year’s event, about the Durham Festival—a celebration of creativity and culture in Durham Region—which will run from Aug. 13 to 16, 2015.

Durham Region residents have the opportunity to recognize the importance of arts and culture in the community at this event, and are encouraged to nominate creative leaders who are making a difference with their innovative work.

Awards will be presented in 11 categories, each recognizing local artists’ work as it benefits the Durham economy, promotes tourism, and inspires and educates the community.

An independent judging panel of community leaders will review the nominations; and select the award recipients based on the impact of the individuals' contribution, as well as factors such as uniqueness, effectiveness, influence and sustainability.
