"Are You Ready?": Region of Durham new emergency preparedness brochure now available

WHITBY, ON November 02, 2015

Personal emergency preparedness is made easy with the Region of Durham’s new “Are You Ready?” brochure.

The user-friendly publication will increase awareness and understanding among Durham Region residents and businesses about their roles and responsibilities in case of an emergency; what role the Region plays in the event of an emergency; and where the public can access information during an emergency situation.

“The new and improved flipbook-style “Are You Ready?” brochure is a valuable resource in personal emergency preparedness,” said Warren Leonard, Director of the Durham Emergency Management Office (DEMO). “Education and preparedness are the best defenses for reducing the impact of an emergency situation. The Region and its local area municipalities have emergency plans and programs in place, which are regularly reviewed and practised. However, your own disaster planning is essential. We encourage you to get your copy of the new brochure today, so you can be prepared.”

The new “Are You Ready?” brochure helps residents determine their risks; make a plan; prepare a 72-hour emergency kit; and stay in touch with local media and official government sources. It includes a nuclear awareness section, as well as emergency planning sheets, checklists and important contact information. With a new look and feel, the brochure features colourful infographics, helping to make the content more engaging and accessible to the public.

Now available, the “Are You Ready?” brochure was developed by the Durham Emergency Management Office (DEMO), in collaboration with its eight local municipal partners.
