Regional Council Composition Review Committee provides interim update to Regional Council

WHITBY, ON November 25, 2015

Today, on behalf of the Regional Council Composition Review Committee Chair, committee member Gary Valcour provided an interim update to Regional Council on the committee’s work to date and its work plan over the coming months.

Discussion at the first five committee meetings has focused on understanding past changes to Durham Regional Council composition; roles and responsibilities of Regional Councillors; comparing Durham Region’s current representation to those in other Greater Toronto Area jurisdictions; and considerations of various population factors.

Prior to the committee delivering its final report and recommendations in March, Durham Region residents will be invited to participate in public information sessions to provide input about the size and composition of Durham Regional Council. Details about public information sessions will be shared once they have been confirmed.

Representation on this special committee includes the Regional Chair, one Regional Councillor from each area municipality (eight in total), and individuals from local chambers of commerce, boards of trade and post-secondary institutions.
