News Release

Water pressure fluctuations in the Town of Ajax and City of Pickering

WHITBY, ON October 29, 2015

The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department would like to inform residents and businesses that due to ongoing, intermittent power loss at the Ajax Water Supply Plant, some municipal water supply users in the Town of Ajax and the City of Pickering may experience water pressure fluctuations.

“Works Department staff is working on the restoring water pressure now,” explained John Presta, Director of Environmental Services for the Region of Durham Works Department. “Veridian advises us the power fluctuations are being caused by a tree that has fallen on transmission lines and they are working to restore it. We expect normal operating pressure will be re-established soon.”

As a precautionary measure, customers who experienced low water pressure are being asked to flush out their systems once pressure is restored—to do this turn on a cold-water tap only and let it run for approximately five to 10 minutes.

The Region apologizes for the inconvenience that some of our customers may experience. Durham Region is committed to protecting the environment and providing clean, safe drinking water. For more information about Durham Region’s water supply, call the Region of Durham Works Department, Technical Support Division at 905-668-4113 ext. 3488.
