Standing committee meetings to be broadcast online

WHITBY, ON April 26, 2013 – The Regional Municipality of Durham would like to notify residents that standing committee meetings will be streamed online, beginning next week, as part of a six-month pilot project.

WHEN:

This six-month pilot project will begin with the Planning & Economic Development Committee meeting on Tuesday, April 30.

WHERE:

Meetings held in Room LL-C or Regional Council Chambers, at Regional Headquarters in Whitby, will be streamed online, in conjunction with EventStream. Meetings held in other locations will not be broadcast via this method.

Residents can access a link to this service by visiting www.durham.ca and clicking Council > Meetings Calendar > Watch Regional Committee Meetings (near bottom of the page).

WHY:

The Region is undertaking this pilot project, in an effort to make information more accessible to residents. It will also help to determine the popularity of such an initiative.

NOTE:

Due to audio-visual set up, only meetings held in Room LL-C or Regional Council Chambers will be available online. Also, closed meetings will not be available via web streaming.

Residents are asked to note that accessibility formats, such as closed captioning for the hearing impaired, are not currently available.

Six months worth of archives will also be housed on the EventStream website.

Staff is scheduled to report back to council, this fall, with information related to project statistics, requirements for continued delivery, and overall success of this initiative.
