Durham Region Waste Fair to be held Sept. 20

WHITBY, ON August 25, 2014

The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department invites the public to learn more about waste management at an upcoming Waste Fair.

WHEN:

Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

WHERE:

Garnet B. Rickard Recreation Complex, 2440 Regional Highway 2, Bowmanville

WHY:

The Waste Fair is a free, family-friendly event that focuses on educating the public about responsible waste management.

 

Highlights of the Waste Fair will include:

•             Educational displays about the Region’s waste management programs, including the new Durham York Energy Centre

•             Educational displays by the Region’s waste management partners

•             A demonstration about vermicomposting (composting with worms)

•             Eco-friendly crafts and games

•             A face painter and Durham’s Blue Bin and Green Bin mascots

•             An interactive bird show by the Canadian Raptor Conservatory

•             Cupcakes, refreshments and giveaways

•             A puppet show about the importance of composting
