Durham Region reminds residents of changes to scheduled Blue Box collection for Labour Day long weekend

WHITBY, ON August 27, 2014

The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department would like to remind residents of changes to scheduled curbside Blue Box collection for the Labour Day long weekend.

WHEN:

Changes to the Blue Box collection schedule will begin on Monday, Sept. 1 in the City of Oshawa and the Town of Whitby. These changes are in effect from Monday, Sept. 1 to Saturday, Sept 6.

WHERE:

Residents in Oshawa and Whitby are advised that the “day shift” system will be in place for Blue Box collection. This means that residents with collection scheduled for Monday, Sept. 1 will temporarily have their   Blue Box collection moved to the following day, Tuesday, Sept. 2. This shift will continue throughout the week until collection scheduled for Friday, Sept. 5 is moved to Saturday, Sept. 6.

Garbage and green bin collection for Oshawa and Whitby residents is the responsibility of the individual municipalities, not the Region of Durham. These residents are asked to check their waste calendars or contact their local municipality regarding collection of these items during the long weekend.

WHY:

These changes are taking place in observance of Labour Day.

NOTE:

Residents are reminded to have Blue Box materials at the curb by 7 a.m. on the day of collection.  For more information, please visit www.durham.ca/waste.
