Blue box, green bin and garbage collection changes over the holidays in Durham Region

WHITBY, ON December 19, 2014

The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department would like to remind residents of changes to scheduled curbside collections during the holiday season.

WHEN:

Changes to the blue box, green bin, and garbage collection schedule will begin throughout the Region on Thursday, Dec. 25 and continue until Saturday, Dec. 27; and will then begin again on Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015 until Saturday, Jan. 3, 2015.

Beginning Thursday, Dec. 25, collection days will move ahead one day. This shift will continue until Saturday, Dec. 27.

Again the following week, beginning Thursday, Jan. 1, collection days will move ahead one day. This shift will continue until Saturday, Jan 3.

Residents whose regularly scheduled waste collection is on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday will not be affected by the holiday collection schedule.

WHERE:

Garbage and green bin collection for Whitby and Oshawa residents is the responsibility of the municipality, not the Region of Durham. Residents are asked to check their waste calendars, or contact their local municipality, regarding collection of these items.

WHY:

These changes are taking place in recognition of the Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day holidays.

NOTE:

Residents must have waste materials at the curb by 7 a.m. on the day of collection. For more information, check your waste management calendar, visit www.durham.ca/waste, call 1-800-667-5671 or email waste@durham.ca.
