Region to offer updates during historic election night

WHITBY, ON October 16, 2014

For the first time in The Regional Municipality of Durham’s 40-year history, a Regional Chair will be elected by eligible voters on Oct. 27. In an effort to keep residents informed, The Regional Municipality of Durham will be posting results on its website and opening Council Chambers to the public on election night.


On Oct. 27, Council Chambers is scheduled to open at 7:30 p.m., and the website should begin providing updated results for the Office of Regional Chair, from the eight area municipalities, shortly after the polls close (at 8 p.m.). Please note that final unofficial results are not expected until later in the evening, after all eight are finished counting the votes.


Results for the Office of Regional Chair will be available at This same information will be projected, onto an overhead screen, in Council Chambers at 605 Rossland Rd. E. in Whitby.



Once all the votes have been counted, each Municipal Clerk (eight in total) will report the final unofficial vote count to the Regional Clerk. After all eight are received, the Regional Clerk will prepare the final summary and announce the result of the vote. The Regional Clerk’s declaration is scheduled to be posted to the website and copies will be made available at Regional Headquarters.


Residents are reminded that although this is a Regional Council position, elections are conducted by the Municipal Clerks in the eight area municipalities of Ajax, Brock, Clarington, Oshawa, Pickering, Scugog, Uxbridge and Whitby.
