Public invited to sign a book of condolences for the Honourable Jim Flaherty, Member of Parliament for Whitby-Oshawa

WHITBY, ON April 11, 2014 – The Regional Municipality of Durham invites the public to sign a book of condolences for Jim Flaherty, Member of Parliament for Whitby-Oshawa, who passed suddenly on Thursday, April 10.

WHAT:

A public book of condolences will be available at Durham Regional Headquarters.

WHERE:

The Upper Galleria of The Regional Municipality of Durham Headquarters, 605 Rossland Rd. E. in Whitby.

This book will be available from April 11 to 25 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (during regular business hours) and Saturday, April 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Please note that Regional Headquarters will be closed on Friday, April 19 (Good Friday) and Monday, April 21 (Easter Monday).

WHY:

To provide condolences to the family of Jim Flaherty, a member of both provincial and federal parliament who was instrumental in the development of several community pillars in Durham Region, including a university and a centre for individuals with disabilities.

NOTE:

Jim Flaherty served as Member of Provincial Parliament from 1995 to 2005. He was elected as a Member of Parliament in 2006, and served as Canada's Finance Minister for about eight years.
