Construction in Whitby affects Waterfront Trail, alternate route available

WHITBY, ON May 01, 2014 – The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department would like to advise residents and visitors who use the Waterfront Trail network that planned construction work in Whitby will cause a portion of the trail to be re-routed.

WHEN:

Work began the week of April 28, and is scheduled to be complete by the end of October.

WHERE:

Front Street West between Brock Street South and the Port of Whitby Marina (phase one of the project), and Charles Street between Front Street West and Watson Street West (phase two of the project), in the Town of Whitby, will be affected.

Waterfront trail users should use Brock Street South as a detour route. Signage will be posted in the area.

WHY:

Work includes the construction of a new watermain, sanitary sewer, storm sewer and reconstruction of the roadways.

NOTE:

The Region realizes that the work will be disruptive, and will make every effort to complete the work as quickly and efficiently as possible. Unfavourable weather conditions may influence the work schedule.
