Durham Region recognizes National Emergency Preparedness (EP) Week

WHITBY, ON April 17, 2015

The Regional Municipality of Durham, Emergency Management Office (DEMO) invites residents to learn more about personal emergency preparedness, in recognition of National Emergency Preparedness (EP) Week.

WHEN:

National EP Week is an annual event, being held this year from May 3 to 9.

WHERE:

DEMO invites residents to learn more about personal emergency preparedness by visiting a display located in the Upper Galleria at The Regional Municipality of Durham Headquarters, 605 Rossland Rd. E., Whitby. Please note that this display can be accessed from May 4 to 8 during regular business hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.).

WHY:

National EP Week is a Canada-wide event designed to increase public awareness about individual and family preparedness.

Education and preparedness are the best defence for reducing the impact of an emergency situation. The Region and its local area municipalities have emergency plans and programs in place. However, personal emergency planning is also essential.

For more information related to emergency preparedness, please visit www.durham.ca/demo. To receive a free copy of the “Are You Ready” brochure, which contains valuable tips on personal preparedness, call DEMO at 905-430-2792, or download it at www.durham.ca/demo, under the “Personal Preparedness” area.

NOTE:

National EP Week is recognized via an official proclamation made by Roger Anderson, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer, on behalf of Durham Regional Council.
