Durham Region to host e-waste collection event in Uxbridge

WHITBY, ON June 04, 2015

The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department, in partnership with Ontario Electronic Stewardship, invites residents to drop off their end-of-life or unwanted electronics (e-waste) for free recycling at an upcoming collection event. Items collected will be sent to an approved processor and valuable commodities such as steel, aluminium, copper, glass and plastic will be melted or processed as raw materials for future production.

WHEN:

Saturday, June. 20 from 8 a.m. to noon, rain or shine
 

WHERE:

Uxbridge Senior’s Centre, 75 Marietta St., Uxbridge

WHY:

To provide Durham residents with a convenient, free way to properly recycle their electronics. Acceptable items include, but are not limited to: cellular phones, audio and video players, VCRs and DVD players, stereos and receivers, computer peripherals, printing devices, televisions, personal digital assistants and pagers, cameras and radios, telephones, desktop computers, monitors, camcorders and portable computers. Residents are reminded to erase hard drives and SIM cards in order to delete personal information before bringing their electronics for recycling.

NOTE:

Residents are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item, which will be donated to a local food bank.

Residents can also drop off e-waste items at any of Durham Region’s Waste Management Facilities during regular hours of operation; loads containing only e-waste will be accepted free of charge. The Region also provides curbside e-waste collection for residents living in Ajax, Brock, Clarington, Pickering, Scugog and Uxbridge. Call 1-800-667-5671 to schedule an appointment.
