Celebrate local agriculture at Farm Connections Open House

WHITBY, ON March 25, 2015

Residents are invited to attend the Farm Connections Open House, an interactive way to learn about agriculture in Durham Region.

WHEN:

Wednesday, April 8 from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m.

WHERE:

Luther Vipond Memorial Arena, 67 Winchester Rd., Brooklin

WHY:

The Farm Connections Open House provides attendees with an opportunity to learn about agriculture through various stations, including meeting with local farmers and livestock; as well as learning about dairy, beef, pork, poultry, sheep, land stewardship, vegetables, and crops.

This family friendly event also encourages participants to learn about the ways in which food is produced, as well as gain an understanding of where food comes from.

Live demonstrations, including sheep-shearing, cow milking and cheese making, will take place throughout the evening.

NOTE:

The Durham Farm Connections program, now in its 10th year, is an agriculture education program that meets Ontario curriculum requirements. It has been recognized with an Ontario Premier’s Award for Agri-food Innovation Excellence, as well as a Watershed Award from the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority (CLOCA).

Admission to the event is free, but donations of non-perishable food items will be gratefully accepted on behalf of the local food bank.
