Construction on Thornton Road in Oshawa will cause road closures

WHITBY, ON May 01, 2015

The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department would like to advise residents and businesses that Thornton Road (Regional Road 52), between Adelaide Avenue (Regional Road 58) and King Street in Oshawa, will be closed in stages for construction over the summer.

WHEN:

Construction is scheduled to begin the week of May 4, and is expected to be complete in September. Unfavourable weather conditions may influence the work schedule.

WHERE:

Staged road closures are as follows:

  • Beginning May 4, Thornton Road south of King Street will be closed for approximately four weeks.
  • Thornton Road north of King Street will be closed for approximately one week in early June.
  • Adelaide Avenue will be closed east of Thornton Road for approximately one week in late June.
  • Thornton Road will be closed for one week between Adelaide Avenue and King Street in late August.

Detour routes will be posted in advance of the closures.

WHY:

To replace a watermain and rehabilitate the road.

NOTE:

All local businesses will remain open and be accessible at all times.

The Region realizes that the work may be disruptive, and will make every effort to complete the work as quickly and efficiently as possible. Drivers are asked to exercise caution for the safety of pedestrians and construction workers.
