Durham Region recognizes National Emergency Preparedness (EP) Week

WHITBY, ON April 20, 2016

The Regional Municipality of Durham, Emergency Management Office (DEMO) invites residents to learn more about personal emergency preparedness, in recognition of National Emergency Preparedness (EP) Week.

WHEN:

National EP Week is an annual event, being held this year from May 1 to 7.

WHERE:

DEMO invites residents to learn more about personal emergency preparedness by visiting a display located in the Upper Galleria at The Regional Municipality of Durham Headquarters, 605 Rossland Rd. E., Whitby. Please note that this display can be accessed from May 2 to 6 during regular business hours (8 a.m. to 5 p.m.).

Residents are also encouraged to participate in an emergency preparedness quiz online at www.durham.ca/demo. Submit your answers by email to demo@durham.ca, or by mail to DEMO, 605 Rossland Rd. E., Whitby, ON, L1N 6A3. All entries must be submitted by May 7. A draw will be made from all the entries received to win one of several prizes, including a vehicle emergency kit or a personal emergency kit.

WHY:

National EP Week is a Canada-wide event designed to increase public awareness about individual and family preparedness.

Education and preparedness are the best defence for reducing the impact of an emergency situation. The Region and its local area municipalities have emergency plans and programs in place. However, personal emergency planning is also essential.
