Celebrate National Public Works Week in Durham Region

WHITBY, ON May 02, 2016

Durham Region residents are invited to participate in celebrations for National Public Works Week (NPWW) by attending public events on Saturday, May 14. Join staff of Durham Region Works Department at two event locations, and have fun discovering how public works impacts your life.

WHEN:

Saturday, May 14, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

WHERE:

Oshawa/Whitby Depot, 825 Conlin Rd., Whitby.

Activities include: educational displays including information about water efficiency and source water protection; children’s activities including crafts and a face painter; and the famous truck and equipment display.

Durham York Energy Centre, 1835 Energy Dr., Courtice.

Activities include: a truck and equipment display; educational displays about waste management and the Regional Sewer Use By-law; a face painter; children's activities; crafts and the opportunity to tour this new, state-of-the-art facility. Please note: strollers cannot be accommodated on the tour and the tour route includes a flight of stairs, with no accessible access.

WHY:

National Public Works Week open house events provide residents with a first-hand look at the Region’s facilities and fleet, while also learning about the many services provided by the Works Department.

NOTE:

Residents are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item, which will be donated to a local food bank, to either of the above event locations.

In addition, from May 13 to 14, a public display will be set up at the Pickering Town Centre to provide residents with more information about services offered by the Region of Durham’s Works Department.
