Durham Region EMS celebrates Paramedics Services Week

WHITBY, ON May 19, 2015

Durham Region Emergency Medical Services (EMS) will mark National Paramedic Services Week, May 24 to 30, by recognizing the contribution of the more than 300 paramedics who respond to over 98,000 requests for out of hospital emergency medical care and emergency support in our community.

Celebrating the national theme, “Paramedics: Expanding Care”, Durham Region paramedics will observe the week by hosting a display at Pickering Town Centre on May 29 during regular mall hours. Residents are invited to visit the display and interact with paramedics. Also, on May 30, Durham Region EMS will host an open house at the EMS headquarters, 4040 Anderson St., Whitby, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“At both the display at Pickering Town Centre and our open house, residents will have an opportunity to check out the equipment used by our service and try their hand at paramedic skills while using our training mannequins,” explained Dave Mokedanz, Superintendent, Quality and Development for Durham Region EMS. “If you’ve ever wondered what happens if you need to call on paramedics for assistance, this is a great chance to find out.”

The open house will also feature an Oshawa built 1933 McLaughlin/Buick ambulance supplied by McIntosh-Anderson-Kellam Funeral Home. It will be on display along with the many different vehicles currently used by Durham Region EMS.

Durham Region EMS is a division of Durham Region Health Department. As one of the largest paramedic services in Ontario, Durham Region EMS is the sole certified ambulance operator for the Region of Durham. The service consists of a team of advanced care and primary care paramedics, operating out of 10 paramedic stations located throughout the Region. See more information about Durham Region EMS.
