Durham Region's energy-from-waste Site Liaison Committee to hold public meeting
WHITBY, ON February 24, 2009 – Residents of both Durham and York regions are invited to attend the third meeting of the Site Liaison Committee (SLC) for the proposed energy-from-waste (EFW) facility. The SLC reports to the Joint Waste Management Group (a sub-committee of the Durham Region Works Committee and the York Region Solid Waste Committee) and is made up of nine members: four Durham Region residents and five residents from the Municipality of Clarington.

Wednesday, March 4 at 7 p.m.
WHERE:
The Regional Municipality of Durham Headquarters, 605 Rossland Rd. E., Whitby, Room LL-C.
WHY:
According to the terms of reference for the SLC, the committee is required to hold a minimum of four meetings each year, which are open to the public.
NOTE:
The SLC serves to review and provide input on site-specific studies related to the Environmental Assessment (EA) study of the EFW facility.
At this meeting, the committee will discuss four site-specific study reports: the Baseline Environmental Study Report, the Archaeological Report, the Geotechnical Report and the Natural Environment Report. These will be included in the submission of the Environmental Assessment to the province in June.
The Review of International Best Practices of Environmental Surveillance for Energy-From-Waste Facilities report will also be presented during the meeting. Please note that this document was prepared to respond to the Durham Regional Council resolution and is not required under the specifications outlined in the EA process.
