Oshawa and Whitby residents reminded of changes to the Blue Box recycling collection schedule due to the Civic Holiday long weekend

WHITBY, ON July 30, 2012 – The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department would like to remind residents of the City of Oshawa and the Town of Whitby of changes to scheduled curbside Blue Box collection during the Civic Holiday long weekend.

WHEN:

Changes to the Blue Box collection schedule will begin on Monday, Aug. 6 in the City of Oshawa and the Town of Whitby. These changes for Blue Box collection are in effect between Monday, Aug. 6 and Saturday, Aug. 11.

WHERE:

Residents in the City of Oshawa and the Town of Whitby are advised that the "day shift" system will be in place for Blue Box collection. This means that residents with collection scheduled for Monday, Aug. 6 will temporarily have their Blue Box collection moved to the next day (Tuesday, Aug. 7). This shift will continue throughout the week until collection scheduled for Friday, Aug. 10 is moved to Saturday, Aug. 11.

Garbage and green bin collection for Oshawa and Whitby residents is the responsibility of the individual municipalities, not the Region of Durham. These residents are asked to check their waste calendars, or contact their local municipality, regarding collection of these items during the Civic Holiday long weekend.

WHY:

These changes are taking place in observance of the Civic Holiday.

NOTE:

Please note these changes affect only residents of Whitby and Oshawa. They will not affect residents in the rest of Durham. Residents are reminded to have Blue Box materials at the curb by 7 a.m. on the day of collection.
