Durham Environmental Advisory Committee (DEAC)

Membership Information

DEAC is composed of 17 members. Regional Council appoints 13 citizen members, 1 post-secondary student and 2 youth members, with the final member being a representative from Regional Planning Committee.

DEAC members serve a term corresponding with the term of Regional Council. However, the post-secondary student and youth members are appointed for the school year.

This volunteer Advisory Committee is comprised of technical and non-technical members whose activities are guided by an approved Terms of Reference (PDF).

DEAC members typically have academic qualifications and work experience in environmentally related disciplines.

The background of members has included: ecology, biology, horticulture, engineering, planning, teaching, journalism and more.

Individuals interested in becoming a member of DEAC are welcome to submit a letter of interest to the Regional Planning Department outlining their environmental background and experience.

New members are recommended by the Planning Department and appointed by Regional Council.
