Annual farm tour to highlight the future of Durham Region agricultural industry

WHITBY, ON September 03, 2013 – Members of the media are invited to attend the Durham Agricultural Advisory Committee annual farm tour, to get a first-hand look at the future of Durham’s vital agricultural industry. The tour will include crop displays, a tour of the dairy barn and an introduction to the next generation of the agricultural industry.

WHAT:

The 11th annual DAAC farm tour–The Future of Agriculture

WHERE:

Shadyway Farms Ltd., S-1510 Durham Road 13 (east of Hwy. 12), Sunderland

WHEN:

The farm tour will take place on Thursday, Sept. 12, from 11:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Registration will begin at 11:45 a.m., followed by lunch at 12:15 p.m. Agricultural demonstrations will begin at 1:15 p.m.

WHY:

The annual farm tour, currently in its 11th year, aims to educate people on the importance of farming, and the major role farming plays in the Durham Region community.

Attendees are asked to dress appropriately for the weather and to visit a working farm.

DAAC is a volunteer advisory committee formed by Durham Regional Council, which provides advice to the Planning & Economic Development Committee and staff on agricultural and related rural issues affecting Durham Region.
