Durham Tourism to kick off Culture Days with local artist

WHITBY, ON September 10, 2014

Members of the media are advised that Durham Tourism will be participating in this year’s national celebration of Culture Days. The weekend-long extravaganza of arts and culture will kick off with an event at Regional Headquarters, featuring local artist Geordie Lishman.

WHAT: Durham Tourism’s Culture Days Kick-off

WHEN: Friday Sept. 26 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

WHERE: The Regional Municipality of Durham Headquarters, 605 Rossland Rd. E., Whitby

WHY: Culture Days is a national celebration of arts and culture, inviting residents and visitors to participate in free, hands-on, interactive activities to ignite their passion for the arts and explore their curiosity for cultural experiences within the community.

This kick-off event will feature local metal sculptor, painter and teacher Geordie Lishman, who will be showcasing interactive art, sharing his inspiring story about living the family legacy and answering questions from media and the public. Lishman is the creator of the newly erected statue at Regional Headquarters, which was unveiled during the 40th anniversary celebration on Sept. 9.
