Media invited to witness GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS™ record attempt at Durham Harvest Picnic

WHITBY, ON August 05, 2015

The Regional Municipality of Durham, Planning and Economic Development Department, Tourism Division, in partnership with Habitat for Humanity Durham and Central Counties Tourism, is inviting members of the media to watch an attempt to set a new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the Longest Picnic Table. The event will take place during the Durham Festival, Aug. 13 to 16.
WHAT: Durham Harvest Picnic
WHEN: Saturday, Aug. 15, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The world record for the Longest Picnic Table, currently set at 394 feet and nine inches, will be challenged on Saturday, Aug. 15. Check-in for the event begins at 11 a.m. and the official measuring of the table by a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS Adjudicator, assisted by two local surveyors, is scheduled to start at noon. Photo and interview opportunities will follow.
WHERE: The GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS record attempt will take place at the south end of Victoria Fields on Gordon Street in Whitby. 
WHY: Join us to witness the world record attempt and celebrate community collaboration.
NOTE: On Friday, Aug. 14, teams of volunteers led by Habitat for Humanity Durham will build the picnic table. After the picnic concludes, the lumber and fasteners used to build the table will be donated to Habitat for Humanity Durham for the outside framing of four townhouses in Oshawa. 
Participants are asked to pack a picnic basket, pre-order a picnic box online, or purchase food on site. Access to the picnic site is free.
