REMINDER: Durham Region to host World Religion Day celebration

WHITBY, ON January 07, 2015

Members of the media are invited to attend World Religion Day, hosted by the Durham MultiFaith World Religion Day Committee and Durham Regional Council. This year’s event will be centred on the theme of The Evolution of Faith, Diversity and Culture in Durham Region, and will feature 10 different faith groups. 

WHAT: Durham Region will be hosting 2015 World Religion Day Celebration: The Evolution of Faith, Diversity and Culture in Durham Region. World Religion Day is celebrated worldwide annually, with the intention of developing interfaith understanding and harmony. Individuals from many faiths will be represented at the event with exhibits and demonstrations of music, spirituality, cultural foods and arts shared in a respectful manner. 

WHEN: Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015 from noon to 5 p.m.

WHERE: Room LL-C, Regional Headquarters, 605 Rossland Rd. E., Whitby.

WHY: Durham Region is home to many people from a diverse range of cultures and ethnicities, who express their faith as members of varied religious groups. World Religion Day aims to build dynamic relationships between all religions across the Region.

Dignitaries attending and speaking at this event include Roger Anderson, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer for The Regional Municipality of Durham; television producer and motivational speaker Dan Carter; and co-emcees Audrey Andrews and Rahul Alimchandani. Also, as part of the event, representatives from the Durham District School Board will also be highlighting faith and technology.

NOTE: Admission is free and the event is open to the public. The MultiFaith World Religion Day Committee of Durham Region has hosted this event for over eight years with the goal of bringing all faiths together to raise awareness about the world’s religions, to increase cross-cultural understanding, to strengthen mutual respect for each other and to contribute towards maintaining harmony and order in Durham.
