Highlights of the third annual Durham Tourism Partnership Summit

WHITBY, ON March 26, 2014 –The future direction of Durham Region’s thriving tourism industry was showcased among local sector stakeholders today at the third annual Durham Tourism Partnership Summit, held at Deer Creek Golf and Banquet Facility in Ajax.

In order to continue the growth and development of Durham Region’s economy, the Durham Tourism Partnership Summit featured a tourism industry speaker series with industry experts and a networking session for local businesses–presented by Durham Tourism and Central Counties Tourism.

“The annual Durham Tourism Partnership Summit showcases Durham Region’s prosperous tourism sector, which is made up of so many star attractions and businesses,” said Roger Anderson, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer. “Collaboration in marketing among these establishments is what allows Durham to offer irresistible experiences to both visitors and residents, alike.”

The event featured keynote speaker Donald Cooper, who spoke about the business side of tourism.
Other speakers included:

Combined, the presenters updated more than 300 participants on industry initiatives and programs; encouraged collaborations as part of individual business strategies; and armed local tourism businesses with practical advice to help further their success.

“The tourism industry speaker series explores ways to take Durham’s assets and leverage them to attract more visitors to the region,” said Kathy Weiss, Director of Economic Development and Tourism. “By promoting and developing our exceptional sporting attractions, culinary industry, cultural marvels and other destinations, we will attract more overnight stays and new business; resulting in more money being spent locally and the creation of jobs in Durham Region.”
