The Toronto 2015 Pan Am and Parapan Am Games are quickly approaching. The Regional Municipality of Durham is reminding residents and businesses to consider alternatives to driving alone, to help keep traffic moving.

“The excitement is building as the Toronto 2015 Pan Am and Parapan Am Games draw near! We’d like to remind residents that local traffic volumes will be heavier, especially on event days,” says Susan Siopis, Director of Transportation and Field Services. “Our Traffic Management Centre is working in co-operation with the Province to address transportation priorities, mitigate traffic congestion during the Games, and react quickly to any traffic-related incidents that may occur. Residents can to help improve traffic flow by taking transit or carpooling.”

As part of its transportation plan, the Province of Ontario has implemented temporary high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes (also known as carpool lanes) on 400-series highways across the Greater Toronto Area, including on Highway 401 in Ajax and Pickering, from June 29 to Aug. 18.
