Residents invited to watch new agriculture video: "Farmers of Durham Region"

WHITBY, ON November 20, 2015

To help educate residents about the agricultural industry in Durham Region, The Regional Municipality of Durham, Planning and Economic Development Department has developed a new video entitled “Farmers of Durham Region,” showcasing Durham’s skilled farmers and impressive agricultural sector. The video is currently available on the Region’s corporate YouTube channel at    

“Durham Region boasts a thriving agricultural industry, with dedicated, hard-working farmers and world-class post-secondary agricultural programs,” said Roger Anderson, Regional Chair and Chief Executive Officer. “This video will serve as an educational resource for students, residents and investors, who may be interested in learning more about Durham’s robust agricultural economy.”

The six-minute video outlines the diversity of the agricultural industry in the region—highlighting the wide array of commodities grown in Durham, innovative technology practises, exciting career opportunities, and  the important role that farmers play in developing best practices and sustainable farm methods, from both an environmental and business perspective.

“With this video, we hope to educate members of the community about the value of agriculture in their everyday lives, in addition to its vital importance to Durham Region’s economy,” said Nancy Rutherford, Manager of Economic Development, Agricultural and Rural Affairs.

This video has been prepared largely as an investment attraction tool, aimed at those who may be interested in investing in the Region’s agricultural sector. Additionally, the video will serve as an educational resource for schools and residents.
