Outdoor water use ban during Cannington standpipe work

WHITBY, ON September 16, 2015

The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department would like to advise residents and businesses that mandatory water restrictions, banning all outdoor water use, will be in effect from Sept. 21 to Nov. 6 for municipal water supply users in Cannington, within the Township of Brock. These restrictions are required while staff perform recoating work on the Cannington standpipe (a water storage facility).

“During the recoating of the Cannington standpipe, a mandatory outdoor water use ban will be in effect,” said John Presta, Director of Environmental Services. “Special efforts are being made to maintain essential water service during work to recoat the standpipe, but some customers may still experience pressure fluctuations. The recoating of the standpipe is required to ensure the water storage infrastructure remains in the best condition.”

The outdoor water use ban is necessary to maintain adequate water levels to deal with emergencies, including fire protection. Residents and businesses are requested to discontinue all non-essential outdoor water use. Examples of non-essential water use include cleaning driveways or decks, washing cars and lawn watering.

The Region of Durham regrets any inconvenience that this may cause and thanks customers for their co-operation. For water conservation tips please visit, or call the Region of Durham's Technical Support Division at 905-668-7711 (toll-free 1-800-372-1102).
