Lights! Camera! Action! Second-annual Durham Region Film Festival to take place in September

WHITBY, ON July 18, 2016

The second-annual Durham Region Film Festival will take place Sept. 16 to 18, and will bring the magical experience of film—both on-screen and behind the scenes—to local residents and visitors through a variety of demonstrations, workshops and film screenings. Taking advantage of Durham’s cultural landscape, the film festival will have screenings and activities at the Regent Theatre and Robert McLaughlin Gallery in Oshawa, Docville movie set in Clarington, and historic St. Francis Centre for Community, Arts and Culture in Ajax.

“Durham Region has provided the settings and landmarks for successful television and film productions for many years, and these productions help contribute to our local economy,” said Kathy Weiss, Director of Economic Development and Tourism. “We aim to build upon the success of the inaugural 2015 festival and shine the spotlight on Durham, as we continue to build partnerships to bring more productions to the region.”

Throughout the three-day festival, there will be activities for people of all ages, including a family friendly event featuring workshops, kids’ activities, food trucks, and a special movie screening of a film made that day. Ticket holders will have the option of watching short films, animations, documentaries, student films, and feature films that were submitted from all over the world. There will also be an opportunity to vote for the festival’s People’s Choice Award and attend an exciting after party.

Tickets sales will begin in early August. Visit for more information about the Durham Region Film Festival.
