Durham Region reminds residents of changes to scheduled waste collection due to Canada Day holiday

WHITBY, ON June 23, 2014

The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department would like to remind residents of changes to scheduled curbside waste collection in observance of Canada Day.

Changes to the waste collection schedule will begin on Tuesday, July 1. These changes for waste collection are in effect between Tuesday, July 1 and Saturday, July 5.

The “day shift” system will be in place for waste collection. This means that residents with collection scheduled for Tuesday, July 1 will temporarily have their waste collection moved to the following day, Wednesday, July 2. This shift will continue throughout the week until collection scheduled for Friday, July 4 is moved to Saturday, July 5.

Garbage and green bin collection for Oshawa and Whitby residents is the responsibility of the individual municipalities, not the Region of Durham. These residents are asked to check their waste calendars or contact their local municipality regarding collection of these items during the Canada Day holiday.

These changes are taking place in observance of Canada Day.
