Watch for new flashing green arrow turn signals across Durham

WHITBY, ON November 06, 2014

The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department would like to advise drivers that all advanced left-turn signals in Durham Region are being upgraded to flashing green arrows, instead of flashing solid green balls.

WHEN:

The conversion to the flashing green arrow will be undertaken over the course of the next year, with a number of intersections already in operation.

WHERE:

All traffic control signals equipped with advanced left-turn signals in Durham Region.

WHY:

The transition to a flashing green arrow aims to improve driver comprehension of advanced left turn signals, especially at larger, more complex intersections. Studies show that the flashing green arrow can increase advance left-turn movement by as much as 40 per cent during peak travel times.
