Region extends 40th anniversary Creative Contest; students could win GoPro camera

WHITBY, ON April 01, 2014 – The Regional Municipality of Durham has extended the deadline for its 40th anniversary Creative Contest until May 2. This contest is open to all secondary school students in the region, as part of the Region’s 40th anniversary celebrations.


The deadline for submissions has been extended to May 2 at 4 p.m.

Secondary school students, who live in one of the eight area municipalities, are invited to submit a short creative work celebrating life in Durham Region. Entries may include an essay, poem or story (maximum 500 words), webpage (maximum three layers), original song, photo composition or video. Each entry must be an original work about Durham Region.

Students can send an electronic copy of their entry (must be less than 10MB if attached to an email), or a link to it, via


Any resident of Durham Region who is enrolled in a secondary school for the academic year (September 2013 to June 2014), is eligible to enter the contest. Students may enter as individuals or as part of a group. 


Durham Region was created on Jan. 1, 1974, under The Regional Municipality of Durham Act, 1973. The 40th anniversary is officially recognized in 2014.


Prizes for the top three entries include black, silver and white GoPro cameras.
