Residents asked to clear snow and ice around storm sewer grates to help prevent localized flooding

WHITBY, ON February 24, 2014 – The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department would like to advise residents that heavy rain is forecasted for most of Durham Region. This has the potential to cause localized flooding.

WHERE:

Residents are asked to help ensure storm sewer grates (also known as catch basins) near their property are cleared of packed snow and ice to help prevent flooding.

WHY:

The anticipated heavy rain may cause localized flooding if storm sewers are not free and clear of ice and snow.

NOTE:

Even with these precautions, localized flooding may occur. Residents should take care and be prepared when driving in these conditions. Maintenance crews work hard to keep Regional roads clear for motorists. Please watch for Regional plows and other maintenance vehicles, and remain a safe distance back. Do not attempt to pass these vehicles.
