WHITBY, ON January 2, 2014 – The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department, in partnership with Global Electric Electronic Processing (GEEP), encourages residents to drop off their end-of-life or unwanted electronics (e-waste) for free recycling at the fourth annual winter e-waste collection event.

WHEN:

Saturday, Jan. 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

WHERE:

The Region's Waste Management Centre, 4600 Garrard Rd. in Whitby.

WHY:

This convenient, free collection event gives residents the opportunity to properly recycle
e-waste after the holidays, while keeping toxic materials out of landfill. Examples include: telephones and cellphones, audio and video players, televisions, VCR and DVD players, desktop and laptop computers, printers, personal digital assistants and pagers, cameras, radios, monitors and camcorders. For a full list, visit www.durham.ca/ewaste. It is the responsibility of residents to ensure all personal data is removed from electronics.

Residents are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item, which will be donated to a local food bank.

NOTE:

Residents can also drop off e-waste items throughout the year at any of the Region's waste management facilities during regular hours of operation. Loads containing only electronics will be accepted free of charge. For more information, visit www.durham.ca/wmf.
