Spring cleaning and Reuse Days—a perfect combination

WHITBY, ON May 2, 2014 – Durham residents are encouraged to take advantage of the monthly Reuse Days pilot program while spring cleaning. The program gives residents the opportunity to drop off reusable items, free of charge, to the Works Department's Waste Management Centre. The items will be donated to Habitat for Humanity ReStore (Ajax, Oshawa and Uxbridge locations), and one of the following organizations: Canadian Diabetes Association, Goodwill or the Salvation Army.

The next Reuse Days event takes place on Saturday, May 10, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Durham Region Waste Management Centre, 4600 Garrard Rd, Whitby.

Reuse Days is a program to help divert quality, reusable items from landfill. Instead of making drop offs to numerous locations, all unwanted items can be delivered to one site, where partnering charities are working together with the Region. These charities take all good-quality, reusable household items and building materials.

Only good-quality items, deemed to be suitable for reuse by charities, will be accepted. Garbage, household hazardous waste and unwanted electronics will not be accepted. Materials refused by charities must be removed by residents or disposed of at one of the Region’s waste management facilities (fees will apply).
