Construction on Bloor Street in Oshawa

WHITBY, ON May 5, 2014 – The Regional Municipality of Durham, Works Department would like to advise residents and businesses of planned construction work on Bloor Street (Regional Road 22), between Albert Street and Ritson Road, in Oshawa.

Work begins the week of May 12, 2014, and is expected to be complete by July 2015.

Bloor Street, between Albert Street and Ritson Road, in the City of Oshawa. Throughout the project, one lane in each direction will be open whenever possible, with the exception of a few short night closures. Bloor Street will be restricted to one westbound lane, for a period of approximately two months, starting early this summer.

A three-day closure of the Highway 401 ramps will be required to complete this work. In addition, Ritson Road will be closed for approximately three days in order to complete construction work in this area. Road-side signage will be posted, and other communications will be distributed, in advance of these closures.

Access to local businesses and residences will be maintained, with the exception of a two- to three-day period when construction is directly in front of a driveway. During this time, a safe area to park and walk will be provided. Pedestrian access along one side of Bloor Street will be maintained at all times.

Construction work includes road widening, sidewalk reconstruction, traffic signal replacements and watermain replacements.

The Region realizes that the work may be disruptive, and will make every effort to complete the work as quickly and efficiently as possible. Unfavourable weather conditions may influence the work schedule. Drivers are asked to exercise caution for pedestrian safety and for the safety of the construction workers.
